I'm having the same issue. Very slow when adding nodes. Adding multiple nodes is terrible. It even hangs when dragging nodes around sometimes. It's exactly the same running Network Atlas on the Orion server itself.

I love the new layer 2 and 3 link statuses but I've given up with Network Atlas for now because the performance is so bad.
