I seem to be getting conflicting information about promoting a node to WMI polling from SNMP. I needed to know which is correct. This document is the one I'm following for setting Exchange monitoring for AppInsight:
http://thwack.solarwinds.com/docs/DOC-172900
It states on page 5, "It is recommended that you add this application on WMI managed nodes. If you convert an SNMP managed node to SNMP, interface statistics will be lost. To convert SNMP managed nodes to WMI, see Promoting a Node to WMI Monitoring."
I didn't see a section about that in the document so I searched it on Google and it brought up this link:
"After adding a node to the SolarWinds database as an ICMP or SNMP node, you may need to promote the node to WMI to start collecting additional statistics. The Node Management utility of the SolarWinds Web Console can easily promote your node to WMI without any loss of historical data."
Following the instructions on how to promote a node to WMI polling I get a warning message stating, "Do you want to change polling from SNMP to WMI and delete historical data that can no longer be polled?" The only options are to change polling method and delete history or cancel. If I change the polling method is it going to delete the historical data? Or is there a way to change it with out deleting it that I'm missing?
