Over the last few weeks we have talked about a few different topics. We have looked at the new dynamic network concept, the data overload, and whether we are proactive or reactive. The discussions were fairly strong in one way on each topic. What I wonder is are we heavy sided because it's what we have always done and are afraid of new ideas or do we simply not have the technology yet to do things differently? Wen we look at whether we are proactive or reactive I think technology is hindering us at the moment. As networking adapts and changes with technologies such as SDN it really opens the door for a shift to be more proactive. Introducing programmability into the network will allow for a smarter network that will allow it to make its own decisions, providing it doesn't go all skynet on us. What other technologies are limiting us? Are we being limited by the cost of storage and scalability for data retention? Are network design concepts growing faster than management options leaving us blind?
