Last April our team began our journey with SolarWinds, taking over the NPM Tool from our Network Group. We were reeling, looking for a tool to replace an IPSwitch product that had been oversold and under-delivered NPM was a tool that was being underused as simply a reporting tool and asset tracker. We quickly were able to get it up to speed, using much of the functionality and adding tools such as NVQM.
Well thanks to the hard work of our new (new to us) rep at SolarWinds, we were able to get rid of another under-performing tool, Compuware Server Vantage. As we fully begin to implement SAM in our environment, the tools, dashboards and reporting will be such a refreshing change from the make shift reporting and failing agents of Server Vantage.
The initial proof of concept, which included monitoring flavors of UNIX that Server Vantage can't was so impressive that our onsite Compuware Contractor complimented our decision to replace Server Vantage. That's when you know you are doing good, SolarWinds, when your competition admits their product is inferior without a fight.
